HIGONOKAMI KIRIDASHI Style Blue Paper Steel Folding Pocket Knife (Medium)
Made in Japan
HIGONOKAMI is a traditional Japanese folding knife with the history of over 130 years in production since 1894.
It is sometimes said to be a "Japanese Opinel" with its same long history, simple construction, durability, and unchanging original shape.
This has been a standard folding knife every Japanese familiar with.
There have been about 40 factories manufacturing HIGONOKAMI in peak period (1950's), but only one small factory remaining now on the verge of extinction due to the appearance of pencil sharpner, snap-off blades, etc.
Most of their knives are made with the traditional Japanese Katana forging procedure, which is to sandwitch harder steel with softer steel to realize both hardness and viscosity.
KIRIDASHI is one of the traditional Japanese knife shape, which has been used mostly for wood carving or grafting for a long time.
Unlike other Higonokamis, this unique model has one edged blade for more sharpness.
This Blue Paper steel version is a standard middle range model in their lineups, and it is made from composite of White Paper steel (the purest carbon steel) with chrome and tungsten.
