In the late 1950s and early ’60s, America exploded with fresh sound as Black musicians challenged jazz conventions that had begun to feel constrictive. The disruptive yet discerning nature of this avant-garde sound was reflected in its creators’ clothing: sharp, tailored silhouettes playing up against bold stripes and patterns. For Fall/Winter 2022, we pay tribute to those artists who revolutionized jazz music—and the world—forever.
