Orig 1984 PORSCHE 959 Group B Design Study Brochure Photos German + English
Content of this listing © But for the Love of Cars. All rights reserved.
Original technical design study for the Porsche 959. Text in German with brief section summaries in English. Written by Manfred Bantle and Prof. Helmuth Bott. 24 pages + a photo card with front and rear quarter views of the car. In excellent condition. Separate sections of the brochure are devoted to the motor and transmission, drive train, suspension and running gear, body and electrical systems.
The "Gruppe B studie" was commissioned by Porsche's CEO, Peter Schutz, in response to the issuance of regulations for the new Group B rally class in 1980. Design on the 959 started in the spring of 1983, with production slated to begin in 1985. After successful prototype racing and many production delays, the first 959 road cars were shipped out in 1987. While the 959 never competed in Group B as a fully homologated car (long story), it helped fully secure Porsche's place in automotive history with what is considered to be the first truly high-tech supercar, the forerunner (along with the Ferrari F40) of all to come.
