A beautiful piece of Madhubani folk art by Alka, #RetirementFunned, signed Aug 23.

Madhubani or Mithila paintings originated in the Mithila region of India. Initially, village women drew the paintings on the walls of their homes, as an illustration of their thoughts, hopes and dreams. With time, the paintings started becoming a part of festivities and special events, like marriages. Gradually, Madhubani painting crossed the geographical boundaries and started reaching connoisseurs of art, both at the national and international levels. Madhubani paintings are characterised by eye-catching geometrical patterns.
