🔧 Material & Build

Injection-moulded from ABS plastic — the same family of materials used in LEGO bricks. ABS does not warp, holds its shape over time, and bonds reliably with superglue (cyanoacrylate) and two-part epoxy. The textured top surface grips PVA, texture paste, and basing sand without needing to score or rough up the surface first. Takes all spray and brush-on primers cleanly.

Every mould in the OBS range is designed in-house using Fusion 360 — these are not generic imports. We control the full production chain from design through to quality control. Mould lines are clean and consistent.

At 3mm total height with a 1mm floor, these bases carry more material than many competing 20mm bases on the market. The extra thickness adds stability on the tabletop and gives you 2mm of clearance underneath for magnets — enough for magnetic storage and movement trays.

💡 From the Workbench

Wash before priming. A quick rinse in warm soapy water removes any mould release residue. Let them dry fully before spraying. This gives your primer a better bite.

Superglue for attaching models. Cyanoacrylate (CA) bonds ABS well. For metal models, score the base lightly with a hobby knife first for a stronger bond. Two-part epoxy works too, especially for heavier pieces.

Textured top grips PVA. The slight surface texture on the top face means PVA glue, basing paste, and sand all grab without sliding around.

Magnetising at 20mm. The underside cavity gives 2mm of clearance — enough for a 2x1mm or 3x1mm disc magnet. Use CA gel (not liquid) — it won't run and gives you a few seconds to position the magnet. Check polarity before the glue sets if you're magnetising a whole unit for tray use.
