SYNOPSIS ....
His successful first book "My Spin in PR" is by Noel Tennison is an Australian raconteur and writer.
This is the book that shows just how important PR has been in creating the media image of some of Australia's famous and powerful figures. Noel Tennison's memoir 'My Spin in PR' will have widespread appeal in the communications industry - particularly for those involved over the past 35 years in news media, public relations and politics.
'My Spin in PR' is an insight into how one man developed his own tools, when there were no rules in PR, to launch careers, save reputations, re-build political parties and even make unionism fashionable. It can be argued that without Noel's helping hand Hamer may not have 'Made it Happen', and certainly Kennett would have been 'Jeffed' before he got started in politics. The same hand that assisted two Victorian Premiers remained at arms length when it came to the leadership aspirations of Andrew Peacock and Bronwyn Bishop. As past president of the Melbourne Press Club, Noel is well known in political, journalism and PR circles in Melbourne where he played a diverse role in the 1970s and 80s in shaping the image of many of our public figures - from state leaders to 'wanna be' Prime Ministers, to influential union bosses. But it is the 'behind-the-scenes' insight that only the PR man can reveal about our politicians and other decision-makers that will attract a wider readership, even those with only a casual interest in national affairs. The mysterious figure of Bob Santamaria emerges as a key influence in Noel's promotion of personalities relevant to the interests of the covert National Civic Council. Violence was never far away, with three of Noel's clients bashed in the street, two others had their cars fire-bombed, and another received six rifle shots through his bedroom window. Noel's writing is riddled with wit and humour while he remains a commentator of the events and the behaviour of the characters around him.
From the Back Cover - A social Commentary
PR Consultant, Noel Tennison, paints a colourful panorama of politics in the 70's and 80's highlighted by lively media coverage of the time. Some memorable moments include:
- Prime Minister, Bob Hawke, on being Victorian Labor leader Clyde Holding, that quiz king, Barry Jones, was moving from state to federal politics.
"Bugger that, I want to know the level of unemployment - not the highest mountain in NZ."
- Rupert Murdoch in a telegram to Truth editor, Sol Chandler, on the day the paper published an article critical of John Gorton whom Murdoch was supporting for PM.
"Resignation accepted. Clear your office today. Replacement arrives tomorrow. Murdoch.
British Broadcater, David Frost, commenting on the uniqueness of Canberra.
"It's the only city in the world where everybody deserves living away fro home allowance."
Channel Ten News explaining the difficulty of covering the visit of international scientists.
"We have your crew at the Zoo awaiting the birth of an orangutang. SO they may be late."
Film star, Shirley MacLaine's response to Andrew peacock on the bugging of the Australia Embassy Moscow,
"Thank Christ they only bugged your f...ing embassy."
Very Interesting read!
Reviews
Reviews … I found this book really entertaining, and just an unusual story,
I can highly recommend this book about a man who has worked in the most opposing ends of the political and industrial relations spectrum, more than anyone else.
Also the humorous stories complete the package, wonderfully.
Marvellous Reading!
