Sent by the Minister of War for an art mission on the front line in 1915, Arthur Mayeur devoted himself to the representation of the last remains of the monuments on the Front of Artois.
Travelling through the area, he sketched scenes of fighting and the ruins of iconic buildings. Printed in the form of postcards, these drawings were sold for the benefit of war works.

Condition; Attribution to Arthur Mayeur is not certain as the signature is difficult to view clearly. The bottom left corner tip has broken off and is missing. Heavy corner rub wear and bruising. General light soiling.
