Antique Hod Foreign Coal Scuttle Green White Speckled Graniteware Fire Place Decor
This charming 19th century Graniteware coal scuttle is 24 “tall x 9.75” across the bottom x 6.5” holes on the top. Please notice a slight split in the bottom seam, so it will not hold water but it was never intended for that. There is a tiny hole on the top front ridge from wear from putting cola in the fire.
Coal scuttles are usually made of metal and shaped as a vertical cylinder or truncated cone, with the open top slanted for pouring coal on a fire. It may have one or two handles. These were first used in the 18th century to hold lumps of coal for the fire
