Tag indicates (and research confirms) he was from the Sugluk / Salluit settlement which is located at the northern tip of Quebec about 300 miles south of the arctic circle. Unclear when the carving was made. He had an exposition in the 1950s at the Art Gallery of Windsor (Ontario), thus likely that it was done before 1953 (when the show opened).
