Oscar de Lall (1903-1971) RCA Canadian Oil/Canvas Quebec Laurentian Mountains Landscape
Up for sale is vintage circa 1950's original oil on canvas by Canadian artist Oscar de Lall (1903-1971) RCA. This Laurentian Mountains Quebec winter landscape is a great atmospheric work that is very well executed using palette knife painting technique, employing a sophisticated knowledge of light, color and perspective.
The painting itself is measuring about 20” (51 cm) by 26” (66 cm), and the frame is measuring 26 ½” (68 cm) by 32 ½” (83 cm).
It is signed by the artist lower left.
It's a well done period painting and it would be a very sound investment and a great addition to any collection.
Oscar Daniel De Lall (1903-1971) RCA
Internationally known and respected Canadian artist, Oscar De Lall (RCA) was born in St-Petersburg, Russia on September 12th, 1903, and died in Montreal, Canada on May 21st, 1971 at the age of 67. De Lall was educated at the naval college in Russia, called into the navy, and it was following his discharge that he moved to North America. De Lall’s career landscape and portrait artist began after settling in Montreal in 1930. De Lalls’ first recognition as an artist came in 1933 when he was commissioned to do charcoal sketchings of 27 McGill University professors. De Lall was then officially recognized for his talent when, on March 3rd 1947, he was appointed as Associate of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts (A.R.C.A.). On November 8th, 1958 he was appointed as an Academician (R.C.A.) of the Academy. De Lall is known worldwide for his works in oil and charcoal. His portraits were realistic and his landscapes captured the vibrant colors and beauty of the Laurentian region of Quebec where he made his home. His works are part of permanent collection of the National Gallery of Canada (Ottawa, Ontario) and part of private collections worldwide, in the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, South America, and South Africa.
