One side of the motar reads "Maimonides 1135-1204 and Secundum Artem" with a face and the other side reads "RX Secundum Artem". The pestle reads "Coricidin". This beautiful vintage brass mortar was produced by Schering in 1968 and features ornate details commemorating Maimonides, known as the Father of Pharmacy with the years 1135 - 1204 inscribed around his raised portrait. Large Rx appears on the back. Reads Secundum Artem along the bottom, which is a Latin phrase meaning “according to the art.” It is frequently used in regards to doing something in the accepted manner of a skill or trade; in medicine, it is often taken to mean “use your skill and judgment.
