Injection-moulded from ABS plastic — the same family of materials used in LEGO bricks. ABS does not warp, holds its shape over time, and bonds reliably with superglue (cyanoacrylate) and two-part epoxy. The textured top surface grips PVA, texture paste, and basing sand without needing to score or rough up the surface first. Takes all spray and brush-on primers cleanly.

At 170×105mm this is the largest oval in the OBS range. The 5mm total height, 2mm floor, and internal grid of reinforcement ribs keep the base rigid and flat under the heaviest resin titans and multi-part centrepiece kits — no flex, no bow. 3mm of underside clearance fits 5×2mm or 5×3mm disc magnets comfortably. Use six or more spread in an oval ring pattern for a balanced, secure hold in transport. Be aware of rib positions when placing magnets — seat them between ribs for a flush fit.

170×105mm oval is the titan-class oval base specification used for the largest models in modern skirmish wargaming — colossal creatures, greater daemons, enormous vehicles, and display centrepieces. Correct for organised and competitive play in systems that specify a 170×105mm oval footprint.

The outer long axis measures 168mm (2mm under the 170mm nominal) and the outer short axis measures 108mm (3mm over the 105mm nominal). The exact dimensions are listed in the table above so you can verify fit before ordering. As with all OBS bases, the oval shape gives a clear front-facing orientation for charge arcs and line of sight.

Wash before priming — a quick rinse in warm soapy water removes mould release residue. Let it dry completely flat to avoid water pooling — at this size, trapped moisture under the primer will cause problems.

At 170×105mm you're mounting the heaviest models in the hobby — multi-kilogram resin titans, colossal creatures, enormous centrepieces. Pin every contact point with 1mm+ brass rod and two-part epoxy. Use multi-point pinning across the full footprint for weight distribution. For kits with small contact points, build structural scenic elements and pin through those as hidden supports — at this weight class, structural integrity comes first.

Over 140 cm² — this is a full diorama. Plan the composition before committing: mock up the model, sketch terrain placement, think about the narrative the base tells. The oval shape naturally suggests direction and movement — use that to build terrain that flows with the base's orientation. Elevation with cork and bark, layered environmental detail, and a clear visual flow that draws the eye toward the model. Consider painting a distinct front arc on the rim for quick facing reference during play.
