If you've used flying bases before, you know the problems: bases that scratch and go cloudy, stems that snap under handling, broken tapered ends stuck inside the model with no clean way to remove them. These are engineering problems, and they need engineering solutions — not the same material doing two different jobs badly.

We use two different plastics, each chosen specifically for its role. This doubled our prototyping costs, but it's the right way to build this product.

The 32mm clear base is the standard infantry-scale flying base — used for jump infantry, winged troops, flying creatures, and levitating characters in skirmish wargaming systems. Two stem heights (15mm and 20mm) let you vary elevation within a squad for natural-looking formations.

The Ø2.9mm stem slot is the same across all OBS flying bases. Stems from 32mm and 60mm flying bases are fully interchangeable — mix and match as needed. All future OBS flying base sizes will maintain this compatibility.

The Ø1.8mm model-end taper fits standard 2mm drill holes in model undersides. No adapter needed.

Drill a 2mm hole in the underside of your model. The Ø1.8mm tapered stem end sits snugly inside. A small drop of superglue (CA) gives a permanent bond — or leave it friction-fit if you want to remove the model for transport. If the fit is loose, a tiny dot of blu-tack inside the hole gives a secure removable hold.

15mm for low-flying poses — jump infantry, short hops, models clearing terrain. 20mm for full flight — swooping creatures, levitating characters, dramatic airborne poses. Mix both heights within a squad for natural-looking variation. Both stems are included with each complete set.

PS plastic accepts acrylics well. Lightly sand the area you want to paint, apply thin primer, then paint as normal. Many hobbyists use transparent paints for energy effects, water, or lava while keeping the rest of the base clear. For a fully invisible base, leave it unpainted — PS stays clear longer than most alternatives.

Keep clear bases in their individual bags when not in use. Clear plastic scratches when it rubs against other clear plastic — the bags prevent this. It's a small habit that keeps them looking clean long-term.

Clear bases are ideal for display and competition — the base visually disappears, making the model look like it's floating. You can show off underside detail that's normally hidden, position lighting underneath for dramatic effect, and create multi-level diorama scenes with models at different elevations.
