Norfolk’s Railways 1967–1994 continues the story started in Norfolk’s Railways 1927–1966. It is about the diesel and early electric era across the county, the everyday events, up to the start of privatisation of the railways in 1994.

By 1967 the county was littered with closed and abandoned railway infrastructure and yet more dereliction was to come as the transportation of goods moved to the roads and the remaining freight-only lines closed. But the routes that survived were still considered an important part of the regional transport system and, with the better reliability of the diesel fleet, services became dependable and more frequent. Full electrification of the lines from London to King’s Lynn and Norwich added to this impetus and enabled British Rail in Norfolk to be in good shape for privatisation.
