Charlotte Rhead A.G. Richardson Crown Ducal "Blue Peony" Charger, 4016, c. 1930s
This charger/wall plate was designed by Charlotte Rhead for A.G. Richardson's Crown Ducal line. A very popular pattern, this charger dates to the period from roughly 1935 to 1937.
It features a nicely tube-lined blue and violet floral motif, with a geometric center medallion, on a lightly mottled gray colored ground. The reverse side is also in a lightly mottled gray color.
A very fine, well executed example of a very desirable pattern.
Dimensions: 12-3/4" in diameter x 1-5/8" high; the base is 6-1/4" in diameter.
This is in very good vintage condition, with no chips, cracks, repairs or other damage, and overall very fine surface crazing to the gloss overglaze. A few light utensil marks and scuffing to the blue center medallion.
Marked on the bottom with a "Crown Ducal/Made in England" backstamp. Also marked in slip with the pattern number "4016", "CRhead F" and the number "4".
