Autumn 1941. All summer long the world had shuddered as the Soviet Army crumbled before the onslaught of the German Wehrmacht.
On September 30, the German Armee Gruppe Center launched Operation Typhoon, it's aim the capture of Moscow and the decisive defeat of the Soviet Union. By year's end, mud, severe cold and the last remaining Soviet reserves had, by a hair's breadth, thwarted Typhoon's objectives. Then, in the wake of the fall's ferocious fighting, the Soviets went over to the offensive, steamrolling into a bled-white, numbed Wehrmacht, whose formations were but a shadow of the invincible machine which had triumphantly surged like a tidal wave over Mother Russia only a few months earlier.
This brutal campaign would shatter the German High Command and sow the seeds of the ultimate destruction of Hitlers Third Reich.

The game opens with an examination of the opening effects of Operation Typhoon and proceeds to the first Soviet winter offensive.
