VINTAGE Sierra Lines Ribs Ivory Triple-Gang 6-Hole DESPARD Wall Plate Cover NEW 92023
This is an awesome wall plate!
What a bargain! This wall plate is a 3-gang plate. This specific style was very common in mid-century homes (often manufactured by brands like Sierra or Leviton).
Because Despard systems were designed to be modular (allowing you to mix and match switches, outlets, and pilot lights in a single gang), the dimensions are specific to that interchangeable system.
Despard Opening Dimensions:
The openings in that plate are sized for the "small body" Despard components.
Height of individual opening: approx. 22.2 mm (7/8 inch)
Width of individual opening: approx. 28.6 mm (1 1/8 inches)
Vertical spacing (Center-to-Center): The components are stacked vertically on the strap exactly 23.8 mm (15/16 inch) apart. The holes themselves are 1-1/8" from each other vertically.
Plate Spacing (Horizontal)
Since this is a 3-gang plate, the horizontal distance between the columns of switches follows the standard electrical box "gang" spacing: Horizontal Center-to-Center: 46 mm (1.8125 inches). The holes themselves are 7/8" apart horizontally.
The "Despard" Difference: The metal straps are what make this system unique. You snap the individual switches into those three rectangular windows on the strap, then screw the strap to the electrical box.
An orientation tip if you're working with these: Despard switches are almost always oriented horizontally (toggling left-to-right) rather than the standard vertical flip.
This plate features a cool vintage textured "wood grain" or "striated" finish.
