How to fill : 

Remove cap head from barrel
Gradually insert lubricant into barrel
Re attach cap head, bump back of head against palm to remove excess air (moves lube towards pump like an air locked ketchup bottle )
Insert rod into hole at bottom of barrel , flat screw driver works, push on follower plate to eliminate any trapped air within lubricant in barrel.
Prime pump
If lubricant does not flow consistently there is air or debris in system.  Repeat air purge.
To clean, remove nozzle tip to clean ball, spring and nozzle hole. 
After clean repeat air purge and prime pump.
