MINT CONDITION, HAND PAINTED 1972 BING & GRONDAHL, B&G
LIMITED EDITION PORCELAIN CHRISTMAS PLATE

Christmas In Greenland, "Jul I Gronland" (Danish),
is the theme for the 1972 annual Christmas plate
produced by the world famous Bing & Grondahl (B&G) Porcelain Factory.
This plate came directly from the factory and has never been on display.
It has been stored in the original double boxing and
comes with the original brochure.
It was only taken out of the box for photography purposes.

The Christmas plate measures 7.25 inches in diameter and
weighs almost 18 ounces in its
original packing material (shipping box not included in this weight).

HISTORY:
Bing & Grondahl was founded on April 15, 1853 by the sculptor and
figurine-maker Frederik Vilhelm Grondahl
(who at the time worked for Royal Copenhagen) and merchant brothers
M.H. Bing and J.H. Bing.
The trademark back-stamp for their new company became the three towers,
derived from the Coat of Arms of Copenhagen.

The first Danish annual Christmas plate was produced by B&G in 1895
(followed in 1908 by Royal Copenhagen).
Designed with a traditional Danish winter scene in cobalt blue
and white, the Christmas plates
have been released annually for 120 years!

Back in 1987, B&G merged with its competition, the Royal Porcelain Factory
under the name Royal Copenhagen.

Danes celebrate Christmas on December 24, Christmas Eve, which is JULE AFTEN
(please note the last letter is an "N" not an "R" as some have believed).
On Jule Aften the whole family celebrates Christmas together.
Singing and joining hands, they form a circle around the Christmas tree
and dance around it!

Depicted on this Christmas plate are two Arctic people driving
a team of sled dogs toward the village below.
They are on their way home on a starry, clear night
for THEIR JULE AFTEN celebration!
