 Split into two parts Athletics (252 pages) and Football (125 pages) with an additional chapter on paper chasing and cross country racing and this is a very good early history of all the early forms of football including mediaeval football, the different school games, (including Eton, Harrow, Winchester), Rugby Union (40 pages) & Soccer (30 pages). The work also includes tips on how to play rugby. Four editions exist of this early history (1887, 1888, 1889 & 1894), 

This is the first edition published in 1887, a second-hand hardback with illustrated boards, the condition is generally very good, there are a couple of minor flaws, a previous owner's inscription dated 1919 just inside the first page, some light foxing to the odd page and very light wear to the covers.
