My Volkswagen Passat GTE Estate hybrid was a great family car, until the engine failed on me! It is a non-runner and has been recovered back to my home in Tilford, Surrey.
The mileage is 79,382. It has full service history, and actually had a major service and MOT in June, with no advisories or work needed, other than needing the air con fluid topping up. I have the 2 keys, V5C registration document, charging cables, and everything that came with the car originally. It even has a full tank of petrol, which is typical! (and anti-syphon measures preventing me from retrieving the 'liquid gold'.
I am not an engine expert, so wouldn't be able to answer any specific technical questions, but this is the report that my local main dealer VW service centre provided when I recovered the car to them:
'Limp Mode / Gearbox Emergency Mode
DIAG
Investigated into vehicle went into limp home
mode with loads of warning lights on the dash.
Engine also sounded very noisy. Customer turned
vehicle off straight away. Confirmed customer
complaint. Found cambelt nearly falling of pulley and
found camshaft B adjuster loose - tightened and tried
to start vehicle, found vehicle would still not start
and belt loose again. Would require camshaft
adjuster, bolts and seals to be replaced as per TPI and
then further checks of vehicle to see for any damage
possibly to the engine.'
I was told that it would need 4+ more hours of investigation (approx £600) to begin to try and establish the extent of the damage, but I decided not to do that because there would then be further hours needed to dig deeper, test, etc and it would be likely that the costs would keep racking up.
I feel that if somebody has the skills to repair the engine, then they can get themselves a great car for a bargain. If it was fully functional, it would sell for £10,000 based on others of the same age, mileage and condition.
The Hybrid/electric components are all working as they should, so there is no risk there I am told.
Feel free to message me with questions or to arrange a time to come and have a look.
* Please note that as it is a non-runner, you would need to arrange collection of the car yourself by trailer or tow.
* The car will be sold as seen, and I can take no responsibility for the level of work required once it has been purchased.
