On offer: an original (i.e. not a later reproduction) folding map "Preston, Southport & Blackpool." on a scale of One Inch to a mile.  Offered mounted on linen and folded into hard covers.

DATE PRINTED: 1940, dated on the map.

SIZE: The printed area is approximately 73 x 58 cm (28.5 x 23 inches). Original outline colour.  Folded into a cover.

PROVENANCE: The Ordnance Survey One-Inch "War Revision" of 1940 was a special emergency wartime military mapping series produced by the British War Office (under Geographical Section, General Staff numbers like GSGS 3907 and GSGS 3908) during the early stages of the Second World War. Rather than conducting a full, orderly national resurvey, the OS took existing civilian one-inch maps—primarily the Popular Edition of the 1918–1920s or select Fifth Edition sheets. The defining feature of these sheets was the overprint of a military grid—typically the War Office Cassini Grid—to assist artillery, troop movements, and defense coordination.

TYPE: Antique lithograph printed on paper.

VERSO: There is nothing printed on the reverse side, which is blank.

CONDITION: Good. Please check the scan for any blemishes prior to making your purchase. Virtually all antiquarian paper is subject to some normal aging due to use and time which is not significant unless otherwise stated.

AUTHENTICITY: This is an authentic antique map, published at the date stated above. I do not offer reproductions. It is not a modern copy.  The term 'original' when applied to a print means that it was printed at the first or original date of publication; it does not imply that the item is unique.

RETURNS POLICY: I offer a no questions returns policy. All I ask is that you pay return shipping and mail back to me in original condition.
