🎨 ABOUT GUSTAVE DORÉ 🎨
Few illustrators made darkness and light as expressive as Gustave Doré. His engravings often feel like glimpses into strange, enormous worlds where mountains, ruins, angels and human beings emerge dramatically from shadow. Doré illustrated everything from sacred scripture to fantasy, satire and literary classics, yet his unmistakable atmosphere connects them all. More than an illustrator, he was a master of visual storytelling.
🖼️ ABOUT THE ARTWORK 🖼️
Puss throws both paws into the air beside a stream, his feathered hat and flowing cape making the small cat an imposing presence. A human figure emerges from the water behind the reeds as the alarm unfolds. Doré illustrates the clever, theatrical hero of Puss in Boots, turning his performance into an animated woodland scene. This coloured version highlights the pink cape, blue boots and dark foliage, giving the cat’s urgent gesture a vivid storybook character.
