Life and Legacy

Though his early career spanned multiple local civic roles—including serving as a justice of the peace and compiling an extensive private library—his later years were devoted to local historical preservation. Waite suffered from severe kidney disease toward the end of his life. Though residents of Claremont feared he would not survive to finish his final book on the town's history, he rallied to witness its publication before dying in October 1895.

Major Otis F.R. Waite, the author, completed his life's work and passed away in Claremont, New Hampshire IN 1895.
