Underwood 18 - Portable Manual Typewriter - Made in Italy (1966) - Fully Working, Serviced, Custom Tricolore

This is an Underwood 18 portable manual typewriter, made in Italy during the Olivetti era (Underwood merged with Olivetti in the late 1950s, and this model was manufactured at Olivetti's Italian factories), dated to approximately 1966 based on its serial number.

[Servicing]
This unit had some malfunctions caused by age-related wear and missing/damaged parts. It was disassembled as far as possible to fix these issues, and rust and grime were cleaned off. Lubrication was applied to restore smooth typing operation. Some remaining rust, scratches, and general signs of use could not be fully removed, but a rust-inhibiting coating has been applied to slow further corrosion and wear.
The rubber feet on the base had deteriorated with age and have been replaced with new ones.

[Functionality Check]
All functions were checked and confirmed working with no issues. Typing action is smooth, and the end-of-line bell sound also works correctly. As the machine has not been used for an extended period, there is some inherent risk of issues arising with continued/heavy use, but normal typing operation is currently smooth.
A brand-new ink ribbon has been rewound onto the genuine metal spool and installed. Print quality looks good — please refer to the listing photos for the actual printed sample.

[Custom Color — Tricolore]
The original color has been customized: part of the body frame and some of the typing keys have been repainted in green, white, and red — a "tricolore" design inspired by the Italian flag, fitting for this Italian-made machine. There is some minor color unevenness and small scratches/marks from reassembly after painting, but this gives the piece a distinctive look.

[Hard Case]
Major damage such as cracks and peeling on the hard case has been repaired using synthetic leather patches. A protective wax has been applied overall to help slow further deterioration, though some wear, marks, and dirt that could not be fully removed through cleaning remain.

[What's Included]
- Underwood 18 typewriter (custom tricolore finish)
- Hard case (repaired)
- A simple, handmade operating guide covering keys, levers, and ribbon replacement (originally written for a different model, but the operation is the same); not a complete manual, but should be enough for first-time users.

This item can be used right away upon arrival. It would also make a distinctive display/interior piece.

This is a fully functional vintage typewriter, but as an aged mechanical item, there is a possibility of age-related issues arising with use. Please look through all listing photos carefully, as they show the actual condition. Please purchase only if you understand and accept this; if you are very particular about condition, please refrain from purchasing.
