Here’s a 1901 Autograph Letter Signed by 19th Century New Jersey Railroad Executive and Musician

Charles E. Nieman was a prominent local
figure in Monmouth County, New Jersey, during the late 19th and early 20th
centuries, serving as a station agent for the New York & Long Branch
Railroad (NY&LB) in charge of the Red Bank, NJ Station.
The Railroad Connection: Around 1911, he was
documented as the station agent at
the Red Bank station along the New York & Long Branch
Railroad. The Red Bank Train Station was built in 1875 by the Central Railroad
of NJ, the station was restored in 2014 and still serves New Jersey Transit
passengers today. Notable visitors over the years included Presidents Ulysses
S. Grant, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and King George VI of the
United Kingdom.
Musical Involvements: Beyond his railroad
duties, Charles E. Nieman was a well-known local musician. He served as the President
of the American Federation of Musicians (Local No. 399) based in the Asbury
Park/Long Branch area and frequently performed cornet and trombone duets at
regional theatres, like the Red Bank Theatre.
Community Leadership: He was highly active in
local fraternal and community organizations, including serving as an officer
for the Red Bank Council Royal Arcanum.
