Vintage original 1905 postcard featuring an incredible early aviation scene believed to show Lincoln Beachey piloting a Thomas Scott Baldwin motor driven dirigible at the Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition in Portland, Oregon.

Beachey was only 18 years old during the exposition and made nine airship ascents above the fairgrounds while operating Baldwin dirigibles including the Angelus and City of Portland. He would later become one of America’s best known pioneering aviators and exhibition pilots.

The image shows the enormous dirigible immediately above the exposition grounds with the pilot suspended below on the open framework and a large crowd gathered to watch. An outstanding image from the very early years of powered aviation.

This is a commercially printed photographic postcard rather than an RPPC, as the halftone printing pattern can be seen under magnification.

Card is unused and undivided only in the sense of no writing or postage; the reverse has separate message and address areas. There is age related toning, staining, corner wear, creasing and other wear as shown. Please examine all photographs carefully for condition.
