A striking and substantial 12-point brass and glass star lantern, measuring approximately 40cm from top to bottom.
The lantern is constructed throughout in substantial brass, with individually fitted original clear flat-glass panels, brass spherical finials to each point and an impressive brass suspension assembly with matching chain.
A particularly interesting feature is the purpose-built hinged section, which opens to provide access to the internal lamp holder. The hinge is incorporated directly into the brass framework and forms part of the original construction.
The lantern retains its original glass throughout, with the panels showing the expected minor signs of age and handling. The brass has developed an attractive aged colour and natural patination, with darker areas around the original joints and soldered construction.
It is an unusually well-made and substantial example, quite different from the lightweight modern decorative star lanterns commonly available today.

Condition
Very good overall condition for its age, retaining its original construction, glass and brass components.
The brass has natural age-related patination and variation in colour, together with minor marks and surface wear consistent with its history. The glass has minor age-related marks but remains complete throughout.
I have deliberately left the brass in its aged condition rather than heavily polishing it, preserving the character and patina of the piece.
The electrical components should be inspected and tested by a suitably qualified electrician before installation/use, particularly if the lantern is to be permanently installed.
Provenance / attribution
The lantern is offered as a Moravian-style star lantern. Its substantial brass construction, original flat glass, integrated hinged access section and period-style brass B22 lamp holder are characteristic of traditional star lantern construction.
No manufacturer’s mark has been identified, so I am not attributing it to a particular maker or giving an exact date.
A very attractive piece of architectural lighting which would make an exceptional feature light in a hallway, entrance, dining room, kitchen or period property.
