A mid-18th century violin with unaltered neck, bearing the spurious label of Matthias Wenzl Placht, Schönbach, 1721. However, the violin is certainly a Saxon or Vogtland work of this period. Neck is largely unaltered, retaining much of its original thickness and shape, although the fingerboard appears to be somewhat—but not much—later.

Through-neck construction, split along bass side of table appears to be an open off-center seam. Note repaired crack on treble lower bout and above treble f-hole. Has some warpage of ribs at end pin area, Varnish largely worn away but original ground remains.

Has roughly fitted Baroque bridge and antique tailpiece of the period.
