Original vintage Episcopal Diocese of Long Island confirmation certificate group dating from 1940 and 1942, associated with St. John’s Church, Far Rockaway, New York.
The lot includes two beautifully illustrated confirmation certificates with elaborate Gothic-style lettering, religious imagery, diocesan seals and handwritten information.
One certificate was issued to Roberta Schuster in 1940, and the other to Carroll Schuster in 1942.
Also included is an original typewritten explanatory sheet titled “The Long Island Confirmation Certificate,” credited to Otto W. Heinicke. The document explains the symbolism and design of the certificate, including the pine and oak branches, Long Island wave motif, descending dove, Gospel medallions and other religious imagery.
