For sale is a rare vintage tinted lithograph postcard featuring 'No. 59. Bermuda Washerwomen.' This fascinating scene captures two women managing a donkey-drawn cart heavily laden with large bundles of laundry along the Bermuda coastline. The postcard was published by the famous Hamilton-based firm Wm. Weiss & Co., photographers and Kodak dealers active in the early 20th century. The reverse contains a handwritten message to Miss Inez Strong in Westfield, Massachusetts, mentioning the 'rig' (referring to the cart) and commenting on the lack of a 'sleigh ride' in the tropical climate. This card is a valuable piece of social history, documenting both the labor of washerwomen and early island transportation.
