For the discerning gentleman who deserves this truly special watch. Vintage 18ct Hand Winding Zenith Gents Watch Cal 2542. 1960's. The 33mm size excluding crown sits perfectly on the wrist and unlike modern oversized watches makes a wonderfully discrete statement.
Classically styled, beautiful condition. Dating from the 1960's when Zenith produced some of the finest watches available, a beautiful gentleman's 18ct gold Zenith wristwatch of the highest quality from one of the world's renowned watch-making houses.
Dial
The beautiful champagne dial displaying the golden Zenith Le Locle star is simplicity itself with elegant golden black lined batons and beautifully clean golden hands with central seconds. It radiates pure style being simple, functional and elegant. The completely original untouched dial itself is in virtually mint condition with no freckling, marks or discolouration of any kind. It is rare to find one in this condition, sixty years old and is a testament to Zenith's attention to detail and quality of materials.
Case
In solid 18ct gold the distinctively styled case is in fine condition, no marks, dents or anything significant to report. Zenith gold watches were always expensive even in the 1960's when this piece was purchased and consequently people tended to take good care of them. This watch has obviously benefited from such care. At 33 mm in size excluding the unsigned crown, this watch is typical of the era. Also present is the casemakers reference number 121 in the hammer head. For information this refers to Guillod Gunther SA Company working out of La Chaux-de-Fonds from 1934. Interestingly the firm is still producing high end watch cases today and had its 150th anniversary in 2016.
Marked on the caseback is the reference number 235D801 together with a small 18ct hallmark. This strange referencing, with a letter between numbers was adopted by Zenith in 1964. Inside the back cover can be seen 'Zenith, Swiss made' and the 18ct Swiss hallmarks. The hallmarks consist of the 18 & 0.750 marks together with the Helvetia device which was only used for watch cases.

Zenith have always benefited from a first class reputation for the superb quality and very high standards for their watch movements.

Zenith watched stand up to comparison with
IWC, Rolex and other high end watches and the company has an almost unparalleled record of technical achievements. They produced all their watches 'in-house' and the movements were so well regarded they were purchased by Rolex for some of their models, notably for their Daytona Chronograph and many other high end manufacturers. The Zenith Watch Company designed, machined and finished their beautiful watches all within a single factory, of single origin and not purchased from another company.
Zenith have always benefited from the very highest reputation for quality and innovation.

A rare opportunity to own a one of a kind stunning 18ct Zenith in amazing condition.

These vintage watches are not waterproof and although running nicely will benefit from a service over the next few years. UK buyers only. All watches over £1500 are subject to the EBay Authenticity Check to make sure they are genuine which sometimes means a few extra days before arrival but gives the buyer extra security. My feedback is excellent and I am selling this fine piece from my personal collection.
