This is a Pre‑Columbian zoomorphic stone bead / pendant, hand‑carved from pale grey‑white hard stone. It is sculpted into a crouched feline‑like creature with wide‑set ears, deep‑set eyes, an open mouth and curled limbs. There is a large vertical central perforation running top‑to‑bottom for stringing, plus a secondary side hole, typical of Mesoamerican wearable amulets. The surface retains ancient earth patina and mineral deposits trapped inside the carving crevices and perforations. The carving style is primitive and robust, executed with hand tools. It was worn as a protective talisman, a status bead by ancient Mesoamerican peoples.
