Orlová (Czech pronunciation: [ˈorlovaː], Polish: Orłowa, German: Orlau) is a town in Karviná District in the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 27,000 inhabitants.
During the 20th century, the town developed rapidly thanks to coal mining, but the mining also severely damaged the town. In the 21st century, the town has struggled with structural problems and high unemployment, and was found to be the worst town to live in in the Czech Republic according to the national Quality of Life Index.
After World War I, Polish–Czechoslovak War and the division of Cieszyn Silesia in 1920, Orlová became a part of Czechoslovakia. Following the Munich Agreement, in October 1938, together with the Trans-Olza region it was annexed by Poland, administratively organised in Frysztat County of Silesian Voivodeship. The town was then annexed by Nazi Germany at the beginning of World War II. In 1943–1944, the German administration operated a forced labour camp in Lazy.
