This is a vintage postcard-sized black-and-white gelatin silver photograph [5-1/2" x 3-1/2"] by Zimm's Kodak Finishing in San Diego. It is hand-captioned by the sailor from whose collection this is from: "This is some of the Point Honda disaster that occurred last September. This is the same kind of ship I'm on." 

Per Google: "The Honda Point disaster occurred on 8 September 1923...seven (7) Clemson-class destroyers ran aground on the jagged rocks of Honda Point (the "Devil's Jaw") along the California coast due to navigational errors and heavy fog, resulting the deaths of 23 people."
