Pair of Antique 19thC French Gilt Bronze Ormolu Furniture Appliques Signed A
Description:
Up for sale is a magnificent matching pair of 19th-century French antique bronze (ormolu) furniture mounts / appliques. The exquisite design features a beautifully chased classical masqueron face flanked by symmetrical drapes and scrolling elements.
These high-quality, heavy castings were produced during the historicism era to decorate luxury French furniture (such as Boulle or Louis XIV style commodes and cabinets) or large mantel clock cases.
The reverse side of each piece features an impressed artisan / foundry mark letter "A" at the top. The bottom section of the right applique displays a stamped multi-digit model inventory number (appears to be 3131 or 5131), which is a clear signature of a high-end Paris bronze foundry. Original mounting holes and two antique screws are present.
