You are bidding on a very fine old french 4/4 violin, labeled Chardon Pere & Fils luthiers Paris 1922. The instrument is in ready to play condition with some tears, wears and one repaired crack right to the tailpiece. Good ebony and rosewood fittings, old master made bridge and new strings.
The violin has an excellent straight high grained spruce of the top and two pieces back of narrow flamed maple with matched sides, neck and scroll with typical for early 20th century french violin scholl black stripes. The purfling is professionally executed and the edges are masterfully done. The original varnish of golden amber color remains in good condition. The total length of the violin is 587 mm, body – 357 mm. Width of the upper bout: 166 mm; middle: 115 mm; lower: 208 mm. The sound is very deep, rich, mellow and powerful.
