A fine old Italian violin bearing the label:

“Plinio Michetti Fece in Torino L’Anno 1947”

The violin has the characteristic appearance and construction of a mid-20th-century Italian instrument, with a traditional Italian scroll and distinctive back stripes.

The violin has a beautiful two-piece back of softly flamed maple, with well-matched maple used for the sides and scroll. The top is made from straight, high-grained spruce. The instrument has a good-quality rosewood and ebony setup, and it is currently fitted with a new bridge and new strings.

There is an old repaired soundpost crack on the back. There are no other known cracks or repairs. The violin shows the normal signs of age and use expected from an instrument of this period.

The sound is one of its most attractive features: powerful, sweet and rich, with good projection and a pleasing, mature Italian character.
