This a beautiful sepia engraving of Paris and Oenone dating from the late 18th Century. The engraving is by Franco Bartolozzi after the painting by Angelica Kauffman. It depicts Paris and Oenone in happier times before the Trojan War.

This is mounted in a heavy, fine quality solid walnut frame.

Paris and Oenone:

• The Characters: Paris (before he became the prince of Troy) and Oenone, an idyllic mountain nymph (naiad) who lived on Mount Ida.

• The Scene: Most paintings show the couple during happier times before Paris judges the beauty of the goddesses or meets Helen of Troy. Common details include Paris carving Oenone's name into a tree bark or holding her hand.

• The Tragedy: Oenone possessed prophetic powers and foresaw that Paris would abandon her for Helen, sparking the Trojan War and leading to both of their deaths
