Up for auction is an antique full size master violin.
The label says:
"Carlo Antonio Testore figlio maggiore del fu Carlo Giuseppe in Contrada larga al fegno dell'Aquila Milano 1738". Very
beautiful in appearance. The violin is in good condition, professionally
restored in our workshop, with some small old repaired cracks, bushed peg-holes, new boxwood set up, good bridge made by Wunderlich and old Dominant strings. Very nice two pieces strongly flamed maple back with
matched sides, neck and scroll, straight high grained spruce top. Rich golden-amber varnish.
Length of back is 358 mm,
whole length is 589 mm. The width of the upper bouts: 164 mm; middle bouts: 117 mm; lower bouts: 200 mm. Full size.
Carefully
set up by our restorers, this rare historic instrument keeps its
beautiful sound. It has a mature, clear voice that sings with brightness
and strength.
