2001 Pebble Beach Concours Poster + 2 Signed Remarques Dietz Bentley Blue Train
Content of this listing © But for the Love of Cars. All rights reserved.
2001 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance original event poster featuring artwork by Seattle artist, James Dietz, and two signed remarques — poster-art-inspired sketches. Bentley was a featured marque at the 2001 event, and the artwork features the two Bentleys closely intertwined with the Bentley "Blue Train" legend. The picnic in the front of the cars is fantastically detailed and nostalgic, and the Lone Cypress in the background puts the scene in context.
Poster measures approximately 25” x 34” (64 x 87 cm). In excellent condition with a bit of edge wear top and bottom (see photos). Remarques are signed by Dietz. There were likely between 60 and 75 of these produced across two designs. Each measures 5” x 3” (13cm x 8cm). New.
Now, about those Bentleys:
On the right — commissioned by Bentley chairman Woolf Barnato, this rakish, three-seat coupe with cycle wings and oversized Zeiss headlamps was immortalized by Terence Cuneo's painting and popularly dubbed the "Blue Train Bentley" for decades.
On the left — the 1930 Bentley Speed Six H.J. Mulliner Weymann Saloon. Archival research by Bentley historian Clare Hay confirmed that this four-door saloon was the car Barnato actually drove when he beat the French express train from Cannes to London in March 1930, as the Gurney Nutting coupé was not finished until two months after the run.
