Vintage handmade Kashmiri papier-mache lacquer box featuring dense, hand-painted gold paisley (buta) motifs on a red lacquered background, with a black lacquered interior. Measures approximately 9.5 x 5 x 2.75 inches with a hinged lid.

The underside bears a paper label reading C.C.I.C., indicating this piece was sold through India's government-run Central Cottage Industries Corporation emporium, a mark of authentic, certified craftsmanship.

As is typical of genuine handmade papier-mache, the lid is individually form-fitted to this specific base and will only close correctly in one orientation - it will not seat properly if rotated. The black lacquer interior also shows slight hand-applied unevenness, both hallmarks of traditional hand craftsmanship rather than machine production.

Condition: Used - vintage, with finish loss/wear in places consistent with age (see photos and condition notes for full details). Otherwise displays beautifully and would make a wonderful addition to any collection of vintage Asian decorative arts.
