This extraordinary 1880s veterinary patent medicine and livestock feed advertising cover is an exceptional example of double-sided commercial engraving. Dispatched from Chicago, Illinois, by L. A. Raven & Company at 1425 State Street, the front corner card is printed in deep blue ink featuring a detailed farmyard engraving. The scene depicts a farmer hand-feeding his draft horse surrounded by cattle, hogs, and chickens, overlooked by the company’s namesake raven perched on a fence post holding a miniature signboard.

The reverse transforms the entire back into a full-scale advertising showcase, dominated by a massive, highly detailed engraving of Raven's cylindrical product tin. Surrounding perimeter typography promotes the product as "A Pure Vegetable Compound" and "A Sure Cure for Chicken Cholera," recommending the tonic as the premier blood purifier and system regulator for livestock breeders and poultry raisers.

Addressed in flowing period script to F. G. White in Marion, Iowa, the cover is franked in the upper right with an 1887 2-cent green George Washington issue (Scott #213), tied by a clean Chicago, Illinois circular datestamp and geometric cork cancel. The reverse shows a faint Marion, Iowa receiving postmark beneath the central tin graphic. The cover exhibits honest postal handling, including light edge wear, slight corner rounding, and minor surface soiling, but the double-sided illustrated artwork remains crisp, dark, and visually captivating.
