Topdog Presents: Always exciting stuff!

Offered here is a large desktop display model of the Dornier Do-X, the record-setting German flying boat, finished in polished silver with registration "D-1929" in red on the wings and fuselage, and "DORNIER" / "LUFT HANSA" / "DO-X" markings along the hull. The model measures approximately 15.75" long by 18.75" wide (wingspan), which, compared against the real Do-X's roughly 131-foot length and 157-foot wingspan, works out to an estimated scale of about 1:100. The model captures the aircraft's distinctive tandem wing-mounted engine layout, with all engine nacelles present along the top of the wing, a boat-hull fuselage with round cabin windows, twin tail booms with a central vertical fin, and twin outrigger wing floats. The model is mounted on a curved metal display arm affixed to a rectangular mahogany-finished wood base, which carries both a Luft Hansa crane logo medallion and a separate descriptive plaque titled "DORNIER X."

The real Dornier Do-X, introduced in 1929, was the largest aircraft in the world at the time of its debut, a German flying boat built around an enormous wing carrying twelve engines in six push-pull nacelle pairs. Only three examples were ever built; two served with Italy until 1934, while the third was destroyed during World War II. In one of aviation's most remarkable early demonstrations, the Do-X flew for one hour on October 21, 1929, carrying 169 people on board, a passenger record that stood unmatched for two decades. The aircraft briefly flew under Luft Hansa livery, the identity depicted on this model.

Condition: this is a well-detailed model, sold as found, in good overall condition with a few notable flaws to disclose. Several of the engine propellers are missing outright (visible as bare mounting posts along the wing in the photos), and among the propellers that remain, some show slight bending and small areas of paint loss. The fuselage also shows a few light hairline crack lines, as pictured. Please review all photos closely, as they form part of the description, and reach out with any condition questions before purchasing.
