Scarce copy of Thomas Taylor's final book, translations of several important treatises by Plotinus on suicide, metaphysics, the immortality of the soul, and true being. Taylor (1758-1835) was the principal English translator of the works of Neoplatonism including Plato, Plotinus, Proclus, and Iamblichus. These translations influenced writers such as Shelley, Blake, Wordsorth and others. They also became important in the Victorian occult revival and helped shape the movements and writings of Blavatsky, Manly Hall, A.E. Waite, and others in the Western Esoteric tradition.
