Impressive antique cast metal American eagle featuring a dramatic spread-wing design and aged gold-tone finish. This is a substantial decorative piece measuring approximately 13 inches wide x 7 inches tall.

I have been unable to locate another example with this exact design, casting and base configuration. Because no maker’s mark or definitive comparable example has been identified, the exact age, manufacturer and original purpose are unknown. Based on the construction, casting style, aged surface and overall appearance, my best judgment is that this is an early 20th-century antique piece. Buyers should review the detailed photographs and make their own determination regarding age and origin.

The eagle is non-magnetic. Exact metal composition has not been tested, so it is being sold simply as cast metal rather than represented as bronze, brass or another specific alloy.

The gold-tone surface shows substantial age and character, including scratches, wear, darkened areas, crazing and areas of color showing through beneath the current surface. I do not know whether the gold finish is original or whether the piece was painted or refinished at some point in its history.

This piece is being sold exactly as found. I have not cleaned, polished, painted, refinished, repaired or otherwise altered it. No attempt has been made to improve or restore the existing finish.

The original purpose is unknown. Its large spread-wing form would make an impressive piece of Americana, Federal-style, architectural, patriotic, military, institutional or fraternal décor.

Approximate Measurements:

• 13” wingspan

• 7 “ tall

Condition:

Antique condition with considerable age-related surface wear, paint/finish loss, scratches, discoloration, crazing and other imperfections. Please enlarge and examine all photographs carefully, as they are an important part of the description.

A very unusual eagle. I have not been able to locate another identical example, making this a particularly interesting piece for an eagle, Americana or early architectural décor collection. Sold as found.
