This original (one-of-a-kind) boarded gelatin silver "Cabinet" photograph [5-1/4" x 4-3/8"] is captioned by hand on verso side: "Str. Penobscot of the B. & B. S.S. Co., Feb. 11, 1894."
The steamer Penobscot was a 19th century sidewheel paddle steamer built in 1882 in East Boston, in the fleet of the Boston and Bangor Steamship Company. It ran coastal passenger and freight routes connecting Boston, Bangor, and Mount Desert in Maine via coastal Maine waters.
In VERY GOOD condition with a light water stain at right lower mount (that goes through to verso side). Light markings on verso
