Product Description

Improve access to the compatible main blade on your Leatherman Surge with this GearNexon CNC-machined aluminum thumb stud.

Designed to clamp onto the corresponding blade opening, the thumb stud provides a raised contact surface that can assist controlled one-handed opening. Its non-destructive mounting design requires no drilling, grinding, or permanent modification when correctly fitted.

The thumb stud measures approximately 20 mm and weighs approximately 5 g. One set screw and one hex key are included for installation.

This listing includes the thumb stud and specified installation accessories only. The multitool, blade, threadlocker, and other display items shown in the photos are not included.

Compatibility is specific to the blade structure rather than the model name alone. Production versions, replacement blades, and aftermarket components may have different opening dimensions, thicknesses, profiles, or handle clearances.

Before purchasing, please compare:

✔ Exact multitool model and production version
✔ Main-blade shape and thickness
✔ Existing blade-opening dimensions
✔ Thumb-stud mounting channel
✔ Set-screw contact position
✔ Folding and closing clearance
✔ Clearance from adjacent internal tools
✔ Left- or right-hand operating position

Do not install the accessory if the blade opening, thickness, or folding clearance does not match the product dimensions and listing photos.

Installation Instructions

  1. Confirm that the thumb stud matches the blade opening, blade thickness, and intended mounting position.

  2. Clean and dry the blade and thumb-stud contact surfaces.

  3. Loosen the set screw enough to position the thumb stud over the compatible blade opening.

  4. Slide the thumb stud carefully into the intended position.

  5. Confirm that the accessory is seated evenly and does not contact the cutting edge.

  6. Tighten the included set screw gradually with the supplied hex key.

  7. Do not overtighten the set screw. Excessive force may damage the screw, thumb stud, blade finish, or mounting surface.

  8. Open and close the blade slowly several times to confirm adequate clearance.

  9. Readjust the position if the thumb stud rubs against the handle, frame, lock, or adjacent tools.

If suitable, a very small amount of medium-strength removable blue threadlocker may be applied to the set-screw threads. Threadlocker is not included.

Do not use permanent or high-strength threadlocker. Keep all threadlocker away from the blade pivot, locking mechanism, cutting edge, and surrounding moving components.

Post-Installation Check

Before regular use, confirm that:

✔ The thumb stud is firmly secured
✔ The set screw is properly seated
✔ The accessory does not rotate or slide
✔ The blade opens smoothly and predictably
✔ The blade folds completely into the handle
✔ The thumb stud does not contact the handle or frame
✔ Adjacent tools open and close normally
✔ The locking mechanism functions correctly
✔ No sharp or raised edge causes discomfort during handling

Do not carry or use the multitool if the thumb stud is loose, misaligned, damaged, or interfering with normal blade retention or locking.

Opening and Use Notice

This accessory assists blade access but does not convert the multitool into an automatic or spring-powered opening device.

Actual opening performance depends on pivot tension, blade condition, lubrication, lock condition, installation position, hand strength, and individual technique.

Always keep fingers clear of the cutting path and locking area. Open the blade in a controlled manner and confirm that it is fully locked before use.

Do not flick, snap, or force the blade open. Sudden or excessive force may loosen the thumb stud or damage the blade, pivot, lock, or multitool frame.

Gloves may affect grip, control, and tactile feedback. Practice slowly in a controlled environment before attempting one-handed operation while wearing gloves.

Carry and Legal Notice

The installed thumb stud may change the blade’s opening characteristics, handle clearance, pocket profile, and local legal classification.

Laws governing multitool blades, one-handed-opening features, carry methods, and permitted blade configurations vary by country, state, and municipality.

The buyer is responsible for confirming that installation, possession, carry, and use of the modified multitool are legal in the applicable location.

The accessory may also increase the external profile of the folded multitool. Confirm that it does not snag on clothing, a sheath, or nearby objects during carry.

Inspection and Maintenance

Inspect the thumb stud and set screw regularly, particularly after repeated opening, vibration, or extended carry.

Stop using the accessory if it becomes:

✘ Loose or unstable
✘ Bent, cracked, or deformed
✘ Unable to remain in position
✘ Damaged around the set-screw threads
✘ Interfering with blade movement or locking
✘ Uncomfortable or unsafe to operate

Keep the accessory clean and dry. Remove dirt, metal particles, thread, and other debris from the mounting area.

Aluminum alloy is corrosion-resistant but may develop scratches, finish wear, or contact marks during normal installation and use.

Important Notes

This listing includes one thumb stud kit only. It does not include the complete multitool or blade.

Installing a clamp-mounted accessory may leave minor contact marks on the blade surface, particularly if the set screw is overtightened or the accessory moves during use.

The “low-profile” fit depends on the exact blade, installation position, and multitool production version. Buyers must verify complete folding and handle clearance after installation.

Actual color and surface finish may vary slightly due to lighting, screen settings, production batches, and machining processes. Manual measurement may result in minor dimensional differences.
