This is a desirable example of PYE’s celebrated Black Box record player, combining a substantial wooden cabinet with traditional valve amplification and a Garrard automatic record-changing deck.
The player operates and plays records; however, there is a low buzzing noise during playback. It is therefore not being sold as perfect and would benefit from inspection, servicing or restoration by somebody familiar with vintage valve equipment.
The polished wooden cabinet remains attractive and displays well, although it has genuine age-related wear. This includes numerous scratches and scuffs across the top and exterior, general edge wear and a small area of veneer loss/chipping on the lower front-right edge. The deck also has age-related cosmetic marks.
A characterful piece of British audio history offering an excellent restoration opportunity for a vintage hi-fi enthusiast or collector.
