Antique Royal Bonn / Franz Anton Mehlem Hand-Painted Floral Vase — Approx. 7¼" Tall

A beautiful and highly decorative antique German vase made by Franz Anton Mehlem (Royal Bonn), Bonn, Germany, dating approximately to the late 19th/early 20th century, circa 1890–1920.

This lovely little vase has an unusually ornate form with elaborate openwork gilt handles, a pedestal foot, flared rim, extensive gilding, and hand-painted floral decoration in shades of pink, purple, green and blue.

The vase is marked on the underside with the characteristic Royal Bonn crowned shield / FAM / 1755 / Bonn mark. There are also impressed and painted production markings/numbers on the base.

The 1755 date in the factory mark refers to the earlier founding of the pottery operation in Bonn and is not the production date of this vase.

CONDITION

Antique condition with significant age-related wear.

There is substantial wear and loss to the original gilding and painted decoration, particularly on the body, handles, rim and foot. There are also areas of discoloration/soiling and visible crazing consistent with age.

Please examine all photographs carefully, as the photographs are an important part of the condition description.

I have not aggressively cleaned or polished the piece, as I prefer to preserve the remaining original surface and decoration rather than risk damaging the antique finish.

I do not see an obvious major break or repair in the photographs, but please consider the piece's age and condition when purchasing.
